Trump Continues Claim of Illegal Voting During First Days in Office
President of the United States Donald Trump continues to believe and state that millions of people voted illegally, making the point during a meeting with Congressional leaders on Monday. Furthermore, his White House Press Secretary confirmed that this was President Trump’s belief. The assertion remains unauthenticated.
On Tuesday, Sean Spicer, the Press Secretary, said of the assertion, “The president does believe that.” Mr. Spicer claims that Mr. Trump has been confronted with “studies and evidence” that, in the president’s view, substantiate the claim.
On Monday, Mr. Trump reportedly told the bipartisan group of Congressional leaders he met with that he thought that three million or more votes cast were illegal. According to President Trump, these votes caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton in the November 2016 election. After the election, Mr. Trump wrote, on the social networking site Twitter, “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”
Since being inaugurated, President Trump has put a number of executive orders in place to bolster and execute his agenda. On his first day in office, Mr. Trump signed an executive order meant to target Obamacare, by green lighting agencies of the federal government to take apart portions of the healthcare law. Many consumers who rely on Obamacare for insurance are expressing worry about losing coverage should the law be taken apart and repealed. The deadline for enrollment is January 31st, with those who sign up by the deadline receiving coverage on March 1st. The administration of former President Barack Obama paid for continuing advertising until the upcoming deadline, and supporters of the law are pushing people to sign up. Some insurers have expressed concern that the executive action by the Trump administration may result in higher premiums, as those not in immediate need of insurance, namely the youthful and healthy, opt out of obtaining coverage; this, of course, would be the result of overturning the individual mandate.
Another order, signed by Mr. Trump on Monday, brought back what is known as the Mexico City Policy; this prevents federal funding for certain pro-abortion international charities.
One of Mr. Trump’s biggest steps taken yet was an executive order that ensured that the United States would not be involved in the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement. Mr. Trump says this move is a “great thing for the American worker”.
