Review of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Some of you may have heard of Gilmore Girls, some of you may not have. So, here’s a little background: Gilmore Girls is a girly television show that first aired in 2000. The show, following the life of a single, teen mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and her daughter, Rory Gilmore, ran for seven seasons. The show recorded the ups and downs of the mother-daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory, the relationship between Lorelai and her parents, many boyfriends, and relationships between friends. While there are many people who don’t agree with the show because of the teen mom part of it, there are still many, many people who adore Gilmore Girls. This love was shown when the mini-series/reunion show, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, came out on November 25, 2016 on Netflix.
I won’t go into any details in this just in case anyone reading hasn’t seen it, so don’t worry, no spoilers. The many fans have long awaited the newly released mini-series, and, in my opinion, it was well worth the wait. Even though Netflix only released a four-episode special, one for each season, it covered a great deal in each episode, and as a whole. Each episode was about 90 minutes long, and, as before mentioned, each covers a single season: winter, spring, summer, and fall. The reunion answered many questions that people had from the end of the original series. Everyone got to see what had come of Hep Alien, Luke and Lorelai, Kirk, Lane and Zack’s twins, Rory’s career (and love life), and everyone in the town. The show covered all the bases, everyone made appearances, even Paul Anka! Sadly, part of the series covers the death of Richard Gilmore, a forced inclusion due to the death of Edward Herrmann. Despite the heavy topic of Richard’s death, there was lots of humor and enough coffee to fulfill any Gilmore’s needs. And everyone is raving about the final four words, the most important four words in the entire mini-series.
There are very few complaints as everyone was very happy with the mini-series. There were complaints about a few things, like the fact that the theme song from the original series doesn’t make it into the mini-series, a huge disappointment for many people. There were also people upset with the short appearance that Sookie (Melissa McCarthy), she makes it into only one scene in the entire mini-series, but this is understandable with the amount of work that she is doing today.
Overall, I would give Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life a ten out of ten as it met all my expectations and more, it was amazing. I highly recommend Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life to anyone who enjoys funny, light hearted shows. In my opinion, Gilmore Girls is a must see show for girls, and would be a great mother-daughter show. Everyone that I know greatly enjoyed the new mini-series and is hoping for another season of it. Hint, hint, Netflix.
