Top Five Reasons Why Italy Is a Great Place to Visit
Recently I was lucky enough to be able to visit the sunny country of Italy. I had never been there before, and I was blown away by it. So much so that I decided that it is one of the best places to visit any time of year - here’s why!
To start off Italy has some of the best food. From pizza to pasta to meat dishes, Italy has it all. The cuisine is lovely, rich, and lively in both color and flavor. You can sit down at a lovely restaurant, order some food and enjoy the wonderful meal in front of some of the most beautiful and historic scenery in the world. Who wouldn't enjoy that? Not only does Italy have some of the best food to eat as a meal it has some of the best desserts ever! The creamy, homemade Tiramisu that you can find at any local restaurant is enough to make your mouth melt, but my personal favorite is the gelato! The soft icy texture comes in so many flavors it’s hard to choose. And if that’s not enough, you can even get it on a cone!
Art! Italy has some of the best art collections and museums in the world. The Academia has a wonderful collection of sculptures that would make even the most basic art lover swoon. From the legendary David to the hall of sculptures, the Academia has it all. Then the Uffizi, with its masterpieces from Botticelli, Leonardo de Vinci, and Raphael. You could spend hours wandering its detailed halls and examining the paintings of the masters. The art scene in Italy definitely makes it worth a visit.
The cathedrals and churches are definitely a draw to Italy. Churches are very important in Italy because it is the country that started the Renaissance, and the country with some of the most dedicated Catholics in the world. From the Duomo in Milan with its towering spires to the Duomo in Florence with its iconic dome, to St. Peter’s Basilica with it’s gorgeous and ornate interior that would make anyone’s jaw drop. It’s safe to say that the churches in Italy are definitely a place to visit, and it would be a shame if they were overlooked.
History plays a very important role in making a country what it is, and Italy is definitely rich in history. Rome, the heart of Italy, has enough history for the whole country. There’s the Colosseum with its old architecture and old stories that date back to the when it was built in 70 AD. Then to the Roman Forum that is practically the base for all the Roman history and for all that Rome is today. All this alone is in Rome. If you were to go to Florence you would uncover all sorts of art history along with other history as well. So, if you are a big history fan then Italy is definitely a place you should visit!
The last and final reason you should visit Italy is because of the friendly people. From the older women to the young kids and anyone in between Italy has some of the nicest people. Even if you don’t speak a word of Italian (like me) you will still be amazed at how kind and thoughtful the beautiful people of Italy are.
Italy in a wonderful country with many draws: food, art, churches, history, and lastly the wonderful people. Italy is a great place to visit, and if you still doubt that it is wonderful you should just go and see it for yourself!
