[Author’s note: Unlike my other pizza around the world article, I decided to make this one a recipe, because unlike Chicago pizza, this is actually makeable. Of course, the best thing to do is actually go to Quebec and try it out!]
Move over, poutine! Quebec’s newest food attraction: Pizza-ghetti! A combination of pizza and spaghetti found at fast-food restaurants all over the province, pizza-ghetti is quickly becoming one of the most popular foods to eat while in Quebec.
Because poutine is so heavy – it’s basically just French fries with melted cheese and gravy, it can only be eaten during the winter, unless you want to gain some major weight. So, the pizza-ghetti has replaced poutine as Quebec’s main summer food. Well, would you like to get to know how to easily make pizza-ghetti and eat it right at home? There are many different ways of making pizza-ghetti, some with a crust and some without, but I picked my favourite recipe. Here it is, complete with my choice of toppings:
Ingredients:
Spaghetti (obviously)
Shredded mozzarella cheese
Sliced black olives
Pre-made pizza crust
Sliced green peppers
Tomato sauce
Procedure:
Lay out the pre-made pizza crust, and spread the tomato sauce all over it. You can make it thick or thin, depending on your preference and how much tomato sauce you want.
Then, spread out the spaghetti. Make sure not to overload. I would use about half the package of spaghetti.
Next, spread out the sliced black olives and sliced green peppers. I like more black olives and a lot of green peppers, so I like to put A LOT of that. I love veggies, that’s why!
After that, spread the mozzarella cheese on top of your toppings and spaghetti. Put a lot! Extra cheese = pizza heaven!
Next, put it to bake in the oven until the cheese turns darker, almost a golden colour.
Now comes the most satisfying and important part of the journey: EAT IT!!!
So, what are you waiting for? Go make that pizza-ghetti. Let me know how it turns out for you in the comment box! This recipe can also be made into a personal pizza. Also, the toppings can be different, and you can alter some of it. It’s not set in stone!
Some great pizza-ghetti recipes can be found online, at websites like Allrecipes or Food.com. This is just my personal variation. Quebec, here we come!
