Nancy Reagan died at the beginning of the month of March in Bel Air, California. Born in 1921, she later began an acting career where she met Ronald Reagan and in 1952 they were married. They had two children together Patti Davis and Ronald Prescott Reagan. In 1967 Regan served as governor of California and Nancy Reagan became a prominent First lady of California until 1975 when Ronald Reagan left being governor. Six years later, Ronald Reagan became president of the United States. She created a campaign called “Just say No” which was an anti-drug campaign. She was one of the most esteemed First Ladies. In 1989 Reagan stepped down from the presidency and they retired to Rancho de Cielo in Santa Barbra.
They later lived in Bel Air where in 1994 her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and died 10 years later. Throughout the years she was a frequent visitor to the Reagan library. I was fortunate enough to see her when she accompanied Ted Kennedy when he spoke at the Reagan library. She was one of the most influential first ladies of her time. She was there when local AP students were honored and she was kind and encouraging to them. At the age of 94, Mrs. Reagan died of Congestive Heart Failure. She will truly be missed, especially by those of us who live near the Reagan library.
Fun Fact: She was known for a while as the lady in red.
