The book Four is a prequel to the Divergent trilogy. These four books take place in futuristic America, where large groups of people are split into 5 factions: Dauntless, Abnegation, Erudite, Amity, and Candor. Each faction values and stands for something. The Divergent trilogy is from the point of view of Beatrice Prior and shows her journey from transferring from her home faction, Abnegation, and going to her new faction, Dauntless. In the later books of the trilogy, especially the last, readers see her journey as a strong, determined person. Four shows Four’s side of the story. Four is Tris’s initiation instructor when she is training for Dauntless and they eventually start dating. This book follows the story line of his journeys through his former faction, which was also Abnegation, and his tough times as becoming officially a member of Dauntless. I think this book really helped the readers get an insight on what Four’s life was like before chose Dauntless. It revealed his experiences at home in Abnegation, the scandals behind his mother, and the way he is towards Tris: hard and tough, but always careful. This a great read, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the Divergent trilogy, and even to someone who is new to the series!
